Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 27, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Pokemon Card Scanner (“we”, “our”, or “the Service”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use our website at pokemoncardscanner.com and our iOS application.
The Service is intended as a Pokémon TCG card scanner, price reference, and collection tracker. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
The Service is designed to operate primarily on your device and in your browser. We collect the minimum information necessary to deliver the features described below.
a. Website usage
When you visit the website, our servers may receive standard request information such as your IP address, browser type, referring page, and the URL you requested. We use this information only to operate the site and diagnose problems.
b. Camera and image data (iOS app only)
The iOS app uses your device's camera to scan trading cards in real time. Image processing — rectangle detection, text recognition, and on-device card identification — is performed locally on your device using Apple's Vision framework. The camera feed is never continuously uploaded to our servers.
When on-device identification is unable to recognize a card from local OCR alone, a single still image of the card may be sent to our servers for fallback identification using a third-party AI service (described in Section 2). The image is used only for that single identification request and is not retained, stored, or used for any other purpose.
c. Search and lookup queries
When you search for a card on the website or in the app, the card's identifying details (name, number, set, or search query) are sent to our servers to retrieve pricing and metadata information. We do not associate these queries with your personal identity.
d. Locally stored data
Your binders, saved cards, theme preferences, and other settings are stored locally on your device using Apple's standard storage. This data is not uploaded to our servers and is not accessible to us.
e. Diagnostic and log data
In the event of an error or crash, anonymous diagnostic information (such as device model, OS version, and crash logs) may be collected through Apple's standard diagnostics service if you have opted in via your device settings. This data is anonymized and used solely to identify and fix bugs.
2. Third-Party Services
The Service uses the following third-party services. Each may collect information as described in its own privacy policy:
- pokemontcg.io — card metadata source. policy
- Google Gemini API — used solely for fallback card identification when on-device recognition is unable to recognize a card. The image sent is used only for that single request and is not retained. policy
eBay sales data displayed in the Service is sourced from publicly available listings and aggregated on our servers. No user information is shared with eBay.
3. How We Use Information

- Identify cards you scan
- Retrieve pricing, sales, and metadata for cards
- Provide and improve the Service
- Diagnose and fix bugs
We do not sell your information, share it for advertising, or use it for purposes other than those described in this policy.
4. Data Security
We use commercially reasonable security practices to protect data transmitted between your device and our servers, including HTTPS encryption. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
