What you need to know

Destined Rivals dropped May 30, 2025 as the send-off for the Scarlet and Violet block. The Team Rocket theme did not just carry the set, it carried the entire year: Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex is currently the single most-valuable modern raw card in wide print. If you did not open this set at release, prices have held and in some cases climbed. Here is the full chase card breakdown.

About the set

Trainer's Pokemon and the return of Team Rocket

Destined Rivals is the tenth and final main expansion in the Scarlet and Violet Series. The mechanic that defines the set is the Trainer's Pokemon type, which includes 83 Team Rocket-themed cards and 45+ Team Rocket's Pokemon. Rival trainers Cynthia, Ethan, Arven, Misty, Marnie, and Steven Stone each get their own signature Pokemon. Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex Special Illustration Rare is the top card in the set and one of the highest-priced modern raw cards on the market.

Pull rates and box math

Estimates based on public pull rate data and community reports.

  • Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex SIR pulls at roughly 1 in 180 packs. Booster boxes average around 1 in 5.
  • Special Illustration Rares pull around 1 in 35 packs due to the higher secret rare count in Destined Rivals. Booster boxes reliably yield 9 to 12 SIR hits.
  • Illustration Rares (non-ex trainer Pokemon like Misty's Psyduck) pull around 1 in 12 packs. Very achievable per box.
  • Elite Trainer Box distributions favor Special Illustration Rares over regular ex prints.
  • Sealed booster boxes have appreciated roughly 40 percent since release. This is the best-performing sealed product of 2025.

Should you grade the chase cards?

Grade-or-sell recommendations by card, based on current PSA 10 sold prices.

  • Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex SIR (#231): grade every clean Near Mint copy. PSA 10 sells for 2.5 to 3 times raw. This is the single strongest grade-EV modern card.
  • Cynthia's Garchomp ex SIR (#232): grade if centering is 55/45 or better. PSA 10 sold prices support the fee comfortably.
  • Ethan's Ho-Oh ex SIR (#230): grade any clean copy. Ho-Oh art traditionally over-performs at grading.
  • Team Rocket's Nidoking ex and Moltres ex SIRs: grade if raw is over $80 and centering is Near Mint or better.
  • Illustration Rares (Misty's Psyduck, etc.): sell raw. Not enough headroom for PSA 10 to clear the grading fee yet.
